New York City Comedy Festivals

Whoever said the saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” is mistaken. Laughter is the best medicine, and what better way to dodge those pre-winter colds than to enjoy a four days full of non-stop laughter? This year’s annual New York City Comedy Festival does just that, and will be held November 5-9 at venues all over Manhattan. Don’t miss your chance to see some of the funniest comedians from all over right in your own neighborhood.

NYCF starts early with pre-festival shows like “HERsterical: One Big Fabulous Comedy Party!” that features a mix of stand-up, sketch and improve, hosted by SNL’s Kate McKinnon. Following the feminist-comedian theme is the “Time Out New York Women of Comedy 2014” show, hosted by some of the best women comics in the business and taking place at the Le Poisson Rouge.

On Wednesday, a benefit managed by the Bob Woodruff Foundation called “Stand Up For Heroes” is being held at Madison Square Garden. Sit back and laugh while donating to a good cause that helps post-9/11 injured service members and their families. Also on Wednesday is “Humor Me: The Betches od Comedy”, starring a lineup of Comedy Central, Total Frat Move and SNL comedians. Don’t miss “The Show with Chris Laker”, a stand-up comedy/panel gathering some of the funniest NYC comedians who discuss everything from education to phallus size.

Funny man Jim Gaffigan will be performing at the Jerome L. Greene Space on Thursday, talking about his humorous life choices and his bizarre stories of being a father. Not to mention comedian superstar Dane Cook, who will be at the Beacon Theater at 8:00. Can’t make it? Don’t worry; he’ll be performing on Saturday as well. Pete Holmes, the host his own “The Pete Holmes Show”, will be making an appearance Thursday, as well as hilarious and renowned comics Sommore and Chris Distefano. On Friday, Kathleen Madigan, who was the “Last Comic Standing” judge and host of her own show, will be performing at City Winery at 7:00 and 10:00pm. Get a chance to see Kevin Barnett, comedy writer and “MTV2’s Guy Code” regular at 7:00 at Stand Up NY as well. The infamous Amy Schumer will be having a show at Carnegie Hall, and she’ll be sure to put on a gut-busting strand up.

Last but not least, Saturday will be providing a slew of entertaining events, such as Bill Maher’s show at the Beacon Theater. Don’t miss out on Chris D’Elia, who’s been a part of everyone’s favorite Comedy Central show, “Workaholics”, as well as other comedy entertainment channels. My all-time favorite comedian Carly Aquilino will be performing at the NYU Skirball Center (I can’t wait) along with Jessimae Peluso, who are both part of MTV’s hysterical show “Girl Code”. Eric Andre, comedian and host of “The Eric Andre Show” will also be doing a stand up at the Gramercy Theater. Make sure to check out the comic legend Bill Cosby himself at Carnegie Hall, and laugh it up with reality TV host Jerry Springer and notorious comedy writer Bob Odenkirk on Sunday as well.

With such a fantastic lineup of hilarious acts, you don’t want to pass up an opportunity like this. Have a laugh and check out this year’s Comedy Festival, you won’t regret it!
